quotes of the week
Quotes of the week:
1. Joseph- How was your sleep Mommy?
Me-Good, how was yours?
Joseph-Good! What did you dream about?
Me-I can’t remember, what did you dream about?
Joseph-I dreamed about you!
Me-Was it a good dream?
Joseph-Yes!
Me-Good! Derek what did you dream about?
Derek- Ummm.. .The Book of Mormon! (I would have loved to have been inside of that dream!)
2. Derek was throwing a tantrum at the end of a Home Depot trip. I picked him up and just started walking to the car. Derek’s response in his meanest bossiest voice was- “"I'm going to tell JoJo mom!" "I'm going to tell JoJo that you held me like a baby!" Nice try Derek, but that doesn’t scare me for some reason!
3. So we lock our door at night so the boys can’t sneak in, especially Derek who has made a habit of magically appearing in our bed in the middle of the night. One night he tried to come in and when the door was locked he started pounding on it. When we told him he couldn’t come in, he says “Daddy, you need to SHARE your bed!”
4. Another Derek one, he is just too funny! So this morning I grabbed his feet and started saying “This little piggy went to market…” He says very seriously, “Mom, STOP they are TOES! They are called toes mommy!”
5. My boys have become the WORST back seat drivers! I taught them about traffic signals and signs and now whenever we go places they are always yelling things like, “ Mom GO it green! or SLOW DOWN it’s yellow and that means it’s going to turn red!” Well, yesterday Derek was being especially hard on me. “Mom stop or you will CRASH, but then he follows up with Good job mom!” Thanks boys!

Wow, these quotes are adding up!
Joseph asks Daddy early Saturday morning, “You are not Santa, are you Daddy? You are just playing pretend, huh Daddy?” My response had something to do with how Mommy and Daddy are like Santa’s little helpers in getting the house prepared for Christmas.
While reading the scriptures stories (condensed picture version) about the story of Jacob and Sherem in the Book of Mormon, I mentioned that there are ‘Bad Guys’ who are against the work of our Heavenly Father and who sometimes try to hurt or kill the prophets. Joseph’s reply was that when he gets big he will shoot any bad guys with a shotgun and stop them from ever entering our house or hurting us. This made me a bit alarmed but then I remember our trip to Four Peaks in AZ and how we shot guns in the desert and drove quads and I remembered mentioning to him that guns are very dangerous and should only be used by adults.
Joseph has been figuring out that he and Derek were in mommy’s tummy when they were babies and mommy was in Grandma’s tummy, Daddy was in Grammy’s tummy, Grammy was in Grandma Nichol’s tummy…. Then he figures out that boys can’t have babies in their tummies, only girls. Now here’s the one that surprised me out of the blue! He says when I came out of Mommy’s tummy it was my birthday! Yep, and I needed to eat a birthday cake. When Derek came out it was his birthday too and he needed to eat cake! Now how did he figure that out?

more fun stories!
1. At the time I received my calling and after Amy introduced Joseph to President Allen, he asked for clarity, “President Allen ‘Thomas’? Amy’s reply was that he wasn’t the Prophet over the whole Church, such as, President Thomas S. Monson, but instead he was our Stake President in the area where we live. Unfortunately, despite Amy’s best efforts, Joseph’s face grew a look of bewilderment.
2. After a family workout of cycling and taking the boys behind me in a bicycle trailer, we head to a nearby park and I do some lap runs around the soccer court and playground area near the boys. After I finish, they decide to do a workout of their own and they run about a quarter mile screaming and smiling. Oh, just before getting there, I notice that Joseph’s shoes appear to be shrunken and I tell him that he is going to need a new pair because he has been eating all his food so well and is therefore growing so ‘BIG’. He takes this in and decides to do a strut walk into the park joyfully smiling and acknowledging the idea of his growing masculinity.
3. Derek and Amy have been going through some rough potty training this week, but I think Amy is more determined to break him in. She has created a method of positive reinforcement by checking a daily calendar of dry versus wet days. Attached on the chart is a photo of his reward after he is done, a remote control truck. Joseph, who was reading the deal and understanding clearly that this had nothing to do with him, asked if we could also get him one. Amy, not wanting him to feel left out, agreed and made a similar calendar listing small chores, like being nice to Derek. After doing some chores Joseph says, I'm ready for my remote control Monster truck now! Amy says, not yet, you have to do a lot of work first. It will take a few days. Derek’s reply to all of this was, “You gotta keep your underwear dry, Joe!!!”
4. For family night we gave Joseph his own copy of the Book of Mormon since he's a big boy in primary now. He is so proud of it! He sleeps with it and then when he wakes up he brings it to the couch and sits down and says sweetly, "Do you want to read scriptures with me?"
5. Last week Joseph got into trouble a couple times during naptime. He plays quietly in his room while Derek naps in his crib. Well, one day Amy went to check on him and as soon as Amy opens the door our dog Chico comes running out as fast as he can. Amy says, Joseph why is Chico scared? Joseph looks at his bed and says, "There is nothing in here." Hmmm...let me SEE that there is nothing in there. Lo, and behold a pair of scizzors and a ball of fur were confiscated. Needless to say we've had some discussions about scizzors and haircuts!
6. Last night we were preparing to have a family over for dinner and Amy was setting the table. Joseph was upset because she had a purple sippy cup out for Joseph's friend Molly. No, mom, she needs PINK because she is a GIRL! Amy says, but purple is my favorite and I'm a girl. But mom, LITTLE girls like pink!

more quotes!
So we've been keeping record of funny quotes for family/missionaries. I decided I might as well post them on the blog:)
1. Derek’s prayer Sunday night: Thank you that Derek can go to nursery and play toys, puzzles, bubbles, and snacks. Thank you that Jo Jo can bring his paper back from his primary.
2. Joseph which planet is earth? “This one, because it has lots of water so we can get baptized!”
3. Joseph said, “Mom, bad guys say kill, good guys say get.” (We’ve been trying to teach them NOT to say KILL when they are playing) Then Joseph goes on… The bad guys killed Jesus, and Jesus died for us. Someday another Jesus will come back and visit us!

more quotes/stories
We had a Family home evening lesson on blessings last week. Wayne gave me a blessing because I've been trying to have another baby. We explained it to the boys and Joseph's face just lit up like you wouldn't believe! Then Derek says "Babies come from church" Joseph's response was, "No Derek babies aren't from church they are from the sky!" Me- "What do you mean Joseph when you say babies are from the sky?" Joseph- "They come from heaven and heaven is in the sky!" Me- "That's right!"
Then, we asked the boys if they each wanted a father's blessing and they said they did. It was really a special moment to watch them get their blessings!
Ever since general conferece Joseph has added into his prayers.."Bless the prophet who speaks to us" His prayers are so sweet and so sincere. I love them!
Today I was talking to Derek and all of the sudden he says,"I'm going to give you a whistle!" I was confused for a second until he tackled me down and started wrestling me. OHH, he was saying WRESTLE not whistle!
Last Sunday I was leading Relief society music when the door opened and there was Joseph with an adult from primary. My first thought was,"is he sick? because he's always been so good in primary. It turns out he was walking to class and not looking where he was going and walked right into the wall! He had a big bump on his head so they asked him what he wanted to do. He said, "I want AMY" Yes, they both keep calling me Amy or Aim. I thought it was fun until they started bossing me around and then I put my foot down and said "Excuse me! I am your mother!" So we try to get them to either call me Mamy or Mommy, but they usually still call me Amy.

Funny quotes from our boys:)
1. Derek- “Mommy, I love you super duper too much!”
Me- “I love you super duper too much Derek!”
Derek- “No, you love DADDY super duper too much”
Me- “Yes, I do love daddy super duper too much”
Derek- “I love Jo Jo super duper too much”
Me- “Jo Jo is a nice big brother, huh?”
Derek-“Yes, he’s my friend!”
2. Derek-“Chico (the dog) has shark teeth mom!”
3. Derek says almost every day since his haircut..."Mom, look I STILL have a 'hair cup!'"
4. Derek says "Jo Jo is Joseph and he's a sweetheart! Come here sweetheart!"
5. Joseph dyed an easter egg at his little joy school. When I picked him up he described in detail how he dyed the egg and then told me that it was ok because there was not a rooster in it." What?" I said! He replied, " It's ok because there aren't animals in the egg so we won't die if we eat it!"
6. After helping Wayne for over 30mins. straight in putting together a workout machine that a friend donated to us, Joseph said, "I'm big because I can take things apart and put them back together again. I'm like Bob the Builder"
7. Joseph decided he was going to be helpful in getting watermelon ready for Sunday dinner by eating it. He noticed the black seeds and said, "I got to be careful not to eat the seed, or I might DIE!" We can't think of where this came from except when we tell him to not get into the medicine cabinet or always looking both ways before walking into the street with us.
8. Joseph says, "The Holy Ghost says I don't need to take a nap today!"
Oh, and we are so excited to let you know that Derek finally had something click, and he is doing AMAZING with his potty training so we are not going to have to buy diapers/pull-ups for a while except for bed time!
